A shading system was required for outdoor pedestrian paths, especially during the hottest months when temperatures hit 50ºC in Qatar.   A system using a synthetic rattan-type weave allowed us to create a lighter structure with lesser wind loads, while simultaneously alluding to traditional weaved textures. Cleaning does not require use of fresh water from desalination; accumulation of dust can be removed using vacuum cleaning or blowers.
The traditional Bedouin tent with its inclined supports also provided a formal reference.

A derived and structurally similar system, using bio-composite overhead units and different legs, conveniently referred to 50s architecture – a period during which Doha started developing as a regional hub and city.
