Msheireb Downtown Doha – Cycle racks

Suite of furnishings winner of the Heart of Doha Public Realm Furnishings competition 2013.

The scope called for 500 cycle racks for the site, capable of locking 2 cycles each.  A playful design invoking both a rolling wheel while alluding to mashrabiya patterns (when viewed at the right angle!).   GMRenlights – the Italian manufacturer of all the items – cleverly managed to apply the desired area accenting pattern as the aluminium section came out of the extruder, and was then rolled.  A bespoke tone of anodising was used – not too yellow, not too grey.
